Guided Access in iOS6 Beta

One of the features that stood out to me during the iOS 6 announcement at the recent Apple WWDC 2012 conference was Guided AccessApple’s website says:

“Guided Access helps students with disabilities such as autism remain on task and focused on content. It allows a parent, teacher, or administrator to limit an iOS device to one app by disabling the Home button, as well as restrict touch input on certain areas of the screen.”

Merge in turn!

Every morning on the drive in to work, I’m amazed at the number of drivers who are seemingly incapable of grasping the concept of “merge in turn.”

For those who’ve never heard of it (perhaps you don’t drive, or are living in a world of blissful ignorance) this is the name given to the optimal method of getting two lanes of traffic need to merge into one lane.

Old games

I’ve now migrated across a couple of my older games, both made in Flash. So, no worky for iOS devices, but anything else should be OK.

Also, as I’ve just noticed it – oddly enough, the last few posts have all been around the start of the hour.

SWAT4 Dual Monitor Fix

SWAT4, released by Sierra in 2005, is a great tactical first-person shooter that puts the focus on saving lives as opposed to taking them.

Unfortunately, the game doesn’t like dual monitor setups and most of the time bluntly refuses to load without the screen flickering like hell as it tries to work out what resolution to run at. Using Alt-Tab to flick between tasks sometimes cures it, but more often than not you have to go into Task Manager and end the process, which gives you an error message about not being able to set the resolution, recommending that you delete the Swat4.ini file.

Toyota GT86 Test Drive

After all of the hype, concept drawings and years of waiting, I’ve at last been for a test drive in the GT86, from William A. Lewis Toyota in Shrewsbury.

Carlos Sainz lives on

Thanks to mook over at skewer.co.uk, my GT-Four now looks much, much nicer:

Okay, okay. So, technically Carlos Sainz was most famous for driving the ST185. Come to think of it, I’m not even sure he competitively drove the ST205.

I’d like to think he would have done though, had Toyota not been unceremoniously ejected from the competition for being filthy cheats.

Fenton! Fentooon! Jesus Christ!

Since we moved house in November, Nutmeg has been a little unhappy. Being left on her own for long periods of time (while I was at work) was never ideal, and now with a bigger (and more empty) house I think she’s just not as comfortable.

So, we’ve been out and bought Nutmeg a companion. Say hello to the newest member of the household, Fenton.
