Gallery: BMW M5 (2005)

The latest addition to my car history is this rather lovely 2005 BMW M5. With 507bhp and a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds, this is something of a monster.

I’ll be writing a full review of the car once I’ve become more familiar with it and it’s functions, but for now have some photos.

The other cars (with the exception of the Celica) will be being sold to fund this baby, incidentally. So if anyone is interested, please get in touch!

Thief: Deadly Shadows Tweaker (v1.2)

This software was originally released in April 2004, shortly after the release of Eidos’ Thief: Deadly Shadows, the long-awaited (but much maligned) sequel to Thief: The Dark Project and Thief 2: The Metal Age.

The idea was to provide an easy to use GUI to help players tweak their game settings in ways that the in-game settings menus wouldn’t allow.

The original text from the release notes is reproduced below, along with a download link.

Movie Review: The Dark Knight Rises

Note: This is a pretty long review, but should be almost completely spoiler-free.

It’s been a long time coming (four years almost to the day, in fact) but the final instalment of Christopher Nolan‘s Dark Knight Trilogy is here at last.

In 2005, we all sat with trepidation as we watched Batman Begins, not knowing what we were in for after the atrocity that was the previous Batman movie (1997’s Batman & Robin, directed by Joel Schumacher)

LASIK Laser Eye Surgery – An Experience

In September 2007, I underwent LASIK laser eye surgery with Ultralase in Birmingham. As a relatively active member of the Something Awful forums, I wrote an account of my experiences on the day and posted it in the General Bullshit subforum on September 19th, two days after the operation.

Gallery: Jenny & Arni’s Wedding – 14th July 2012

This weekend saw the marriage between Jenny – one of Alex’s friends from Aberystwyth University – and her partner Arni. The wedding took place at Steventon Church (which, funnily enough, is in Steventon in Oxfordshire) with the reception afterwards being held at the Village Hall in nearby Eynsham. The following day, a get-together and barbecue was had in Ducklington, another nearby village.

Ever since I were knee ‘igh to a grasshopper, I’ve wanted to keep tarantulas as pets. For some inexplicable reason, my Mum wouldn’t allow it. I dunno, apparently they freaked her out or something, can’t imagine why.

Automatic cat feeding

I’m going away shortly, and so far have not been able to find anybody free to feed my cats while I’m gone.

As I’m not overly keen on the idea of throwing them into cat prison (aka a local cattery) for a couple of days, I’ve been looking into the idea of automatic pet feeders.

Restaurant Review: Henri’s, Shifnal

I took a trip over to Shifnal recently with Alex, to a restaurant called Henri’s. Situated on Church Street in the town, with an outside seating area and a (small) car park, it seems well placed for passing trade and the general aesthetic was nice.

Our table was booked for 7.45pm, and all but one of our party arrived on time. We were shown to our table, and drinks orders were taken. The restaurant serves a variety of world beers, although usually well known brands such as Corona, Peroni and Red Stripe.

Guided Access in iOS6 Beta

One of the features that stood out to me during the iOS 6 announcement at the recent Apple WWDC 2012 conference was Guided AccessApple’s website says:

“Guided Access helps students with disabilities such as autism remain on task and focused on content. It allows a parent, teacher, or administrator to limit an iOS device to one app by disabling the Home button, as well as restrict touch input on certain areas of the screen.”
